CURRICULUM

Fabio Ditto, graduated with a first-class qualification in violin from the Vibo Valentia Conservatoire and took post-graduate courses throughout Italy studying with world renowned teachers and performers such as Marco Lorenzini, Santi Interdonato, Felice Cusano, Pavel Vernikov and Eugena Chucajeva. Between 1995 and 1998 he attended the Orchestral Player Training Courses organized by the Fiesole Music School, obtaining his qualification in orchestral playing.

   He played in the Italian National Youth Orchestra, performing in prestigious concert halls and theatres all over Italy (e.g. Ferrara, Cremona, Florence, Verona, Perugia, Turin) and abroad under famous orchestral conductors including Riccardo Muti, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Luciano Berio, Emmanuel Krivine, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Vinko Globokar, Daniel Oren and with soloists such as Kristian Zimmermann and Pavel Vernikov.

   He has studied chamber music with Danilo Rossi, Piero Farulli, Andrea Nannoni, playing in various formations. In July 1998 he played in the first performance of “Teviert” for ten instruments by D.Bellissimo (winner of the “Veretti” prize).

   He was later invited by the same orchestra to play in a concert given as part of the Festa della Repubblica in Rome in front of the Italian president. He also performed in a series of concertos (Bologna, Siena, Berlin) under the direction of Maestro Gatti, recorded for RAI television. In September 2000 he recorded works by Schubert and Brahms on DVD with the Italian National Youth Orchestra under the direction of G.Gelmetti.

   He has played in various orchestras including the “Nuove immagini” chamber group of Salerno with wich he has performed in Italy and abroad (e.g. Bruges, Antwerp), the Messina Theatre Orchestra, the International Orchestra of Italy and the Fiesole Chamber Orchestra with wich he has performed in well-known festivals and events throughout Italy.

   At the moment he plays in the Catanzaro Provincial Orchestra and has been on tour with them in Canada recently.

 

Michele Cosso, double-bass, gained his diploma from the Vibo Valentia Conservatoire. Between 1988 and 1990 he attended the Orchestral Player Training Courses organized by the Fiesole Music School, obtaining his qualification in orchestral playing.

   As first double-bass with the Italian National Youth Orchestra, he played throughout Italy (Accademia “Santa Cecilia”, Rome; Teatro alla Scala, Milan; Teatro San Carlo, Naples; Teatro Comunale, Florence; Biennale Musica, Venice) and abroad (Amsterdam, Paris, Edinburgh).

   In 1992 he graduated with a first class degree from the University of Bologna (DAMS) with a dissertation entitled “The organization and economics of showbusiness” and later took Master qualifications in showbusiness management organized by the LUISS and the University of Bologna.

   He has performed in chamber groups and orchestras for RAI, EURO and MONDOVISION television productions and has played with the Turin RAI Symphony Orchestra, the Bolzano-Trento “Haydn” Orchestra and the International Orchestra of Italy.

   He has made various recordings including Milhaud’s “La Creation du Monde” (CD Aulos-AUL  66 038) and the musical “My Fair Lady” (CD Carosello  543  399-2).

   Since 1996 he has performed with the Messina Theatre Orchestra as first double-bass and since 2000 has worked with the Festival Pergine Spettacolo Aperto as double-bass tutor for the International Festival Orchestra. In 2004 he held double-bass courses at the International Music Campus, Gallodoro-Taormina, Messina.

   At the moment he teaches double-bass at Vibo Valentia Conservatoire, Italy and plays in the Catanzaro Provincial Orchestra.

 

Francesco Silvestri, gained diplomas in piano, harpsichord and chamber music after studying at the Conservatoires of Vibo Valentia and Rome. He then took master classes and advanced courses with world-renowned teachers at the “Ducale”, Genoa, the “Mozarteum”, Salzburg and the Academy of Ancient Music, Bolzano.

   He won the “Gioventł Musicale d’Italia” prize as well as other Italian piano competitions. He has played in over ten international competitions including the “Cittą di Caltanissetta”, 1999, a member of the International Federation of Competitions, Geneva.

   He has been invited by cultural institutions and musical associations such as the Italian Institute of Culture, A.Gi.Mus and Cidim to make solo performances all over Italy as well as in Greece, Ireland, Germany, Portugal and France.

   He has performed concertos by Bach, Mozart and Beethoven as guest soloist with the Vidin State Orchestra (Bulgaria) and with the Cadca Chamber Orchestra (Slovakia) and has taken part in a series of concerts organized by the Italian Institute of Culture at the University of Melbourne, Australia.

   He regularly accompanies soloists from the orchestra of La Scala, Milan and the Accademia Nazionale Santa Cecilia, Rome. In 2000 he accompanied the participants in the “Premio Valentino Bucchi”, Rome.

   He has recently performed at the Konzertsaal of Berlin Hochschule and at the Auditorium del Lingotto, Turin.

 

Giovanni Smiroldo gained a first-class diploma in the accordion at the Florence Conservatoire and a cum laude qualification in jazz at the Reggio Calabria Conservatoire. He also holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Messina.

   He attended the courses of the Berklee Summer School at Umbria Jazz Clinics in 2001.

   He has performed widely as a soloist and in chamber groups throughout Italy. He has played at the Messina Theatre, at the Reggio Calabria Theatre and in the Catanzaro Provincial Orchestra since 2001 and has accompanied the singer Milva.

   He has given many concerts as soloist with the Libera Accademia Ensemble performing A.Romero’s “Suite de Castelfidardo” and A.Piazzolla’s “Five Tango Sensations”.

   He teaches his instrument and works as artistic collaborator for A.Gi.Mus. in Santa Teresa di Riva, Messina.
